The Editors
Snug Casa is a small publication with a small masthead — one editor, one beat, and a fixed point of view about how bedrooms should be bought for.
Ruth Alder
Editor
Former hotel-linen operations manager; writes about bedding as a system — mattress, frame, topper and sheets checked together, wash count over thread count.
Before this site, Ruth managed hotel linen operations — a full floor of sheets, duvets, and towels moving through industrial wash cycles, with a retirement ledger that recorded exactly how long each item lasted and what killed it. It is the closest thing to a controlled longevity study the home-textiles world produces, and it shaped everything she writes here: judge bedding by wash count, not thread count; check the spec first, then calibrate it against what verified owners report at month six; and never evaluate one layer of the bed in isolation, because the bed is a system.
She writes two running columns. The Bed Build works through the system one layer at a time — what the layer solves, how it constrains the layers above it, and the misfits that show up in owner reviews. Owner Signals reads a category's verified feedback the way she once read wash logs: which complaints repeat across many owners (real defects), which are avoidable misuse, and which published specs the feedback quietly overturns. Every column ends the same way, with the three words to search in the negative reviews before you order.
